  • Single crochet (sc): The single crochet stitch is the most basic crochet stitch and is used to create a dense, fabric-like texture. To make a single crochet stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through both loops on your hook.
  • Double crochet (dc): The double crochet stitch is taller and lacier than the single crochet stitch and is used to create a more open, airy texture. To make a double crochet stitch, yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through two loops on your hook. Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.
  • Half double crochet (hdc): The half double crochet stitch is a hybrid between the single crochet and double crochet stitches and is used to create a texture that is denser than the double crochet stitch but lacier than the single crochet stitch. To make a half double crochet stitch, yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through all three loops on your hook.
  • Slip stitch (sl st): The slip stitch is used to join pieces of crochet together or to create a decorative edge. To make a slip stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through both loops on your hook.
