Early Life and Career
Bobby Blue Bland was born Robert Calvin Bland on January 27, 1928, in Rosemark, Tennessee. He began singing in church at a young age and was soon performing at local clubs and talent shows. In 1952, he signed with Duke Records and released his debut single, "Farther Up the Road." The song was a hit, and Bland soon became one of the most popular blues singers in the country.
