Hannibal was born in Carthage, North Africa, in 247 BC. His father, Hamilcar Barca, was a Carthaginian general who fought against the Romans in the First Punic War (264-241 BC). Hannibal grew up to be a skilled military commander, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the Carthaginian army.

In 218 BC, Hannibal invaded Italy with an army of 50,000 men and 37 elephants. He crossed the Alps Mountains, which was a daring and dangerous maneuver. Hannibal's army defeated the Romans in a series of battles, including the Battle of Cannae in 216 BC, which was one of the greatest military victories in history.

However, the Romans eventually defeated Hannibal in the Battle of Zama in 202 BC. Hannibal returned to Carthage, where he served as a political leader and military advisor. He was eventually forced to flee Carthage when his enemies gained power. Hannibal lived in exile for many years, and he eventually committed suicide in 183 BC.
